Joseph M. Mattone, Sr.

 

Chairman

Joseph Mattone, Sr. is the Chairman of Mattone Investors, LLC. Mr. Mattone has been involved in real estate development since 1955, both individually and under the Mattone Investors banner. Over the course of his career, Mr. Mattone has developed more than 70 commercial, industrial, and residential properties and still holds a major interest in over 30 properties. Mr. Mattone also serves as Senior Partner in the law firm of Mattone, Mattone, Mattone, Mattone, Mattone, Megna and Todd, a full-service, Queens-based law firm. Mr. Mattone is currently a member of the New York State Bar Association, American Bar Association, and Queens County Bar Association.

Mr. Mattone has been recognized many times over for his extensive professional accomplishments and generous charitable work. His countless special appointments, offices, and honors include being honored as Man of the Year by both United Cerebral Palsy and Italian Charities of America, being honored by the Eleanor Roosevelt Regular Democratic Club, and receiving the 2001 Progress of Peoples Achievement Award from Catholic Charities. Mr. Mattone was honored by the Queen's Chamber of Commerce in 2017 and received the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce CENTURY Award in 2018. Mr. Mattone was a co-founder of the Brooklyn-Queens Educational Annual Future’s in Education in 1998 and is still an active board member today. Mr. Mattone has also served since 2012 as President of Figli Di San Gennaro, the not-for-profit community organization that runs the annual San Gennaro Festival in Little Italy.

Mr. Mattone has been honored several times by his alma mater, St. John’s University (“SJU”), from which he earned both his bachelor’s and law degrees in just five years, graduating fifth in his class at law school. He was awarded the SJU President’s Medal in 1985, the Medal of Honor in 1993, and was given an Honorary Doctorate of Law in 1994. Currently, Mr. Mattone serves as a Trustee on the SJU Board. In 2017, Mr. Mattone created and funded the Real Estate Institute at St. John’s University School of Law, for which he was honored at the SJU School of Law 90th Anniversary Gala.
